The judges chose to honour High Street TV for being an inspiration to others, for aiming for the prospect of a better life for all in their community, for showing respectfulness towards their employees and sustainability in their corporate decisions.

It’s an absolute privilege to be named Corporate Social Responsibility Company of the Year. It’s a key part of our business strategy and ethos and is about focusing our time and effort on where we can make positive social impacts.

Andrew Malcher, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman, High Street TV

Speaking of the win, Andrew Malcher, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman went on to say:

In his acceptance speech, Andrew Malcher, CEO High Street TV emphasised the importance of giving something back to the community

”We’ve been running several initiatives over the past few years, from creating a healthy and positive office and working environment, to making a real difference in our community, working together as a team to give something back to those who need our support the most. What’s more, as part of our 2019 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) plan, we have set ambitious company-wide targets for becoming more sustainable, including reducing carbon emissions by 80%, using more recycled or sustainable materials for product packaging, and raising money for local charities.

This award is a testament to every staff member whose commitment makes this possible and it makes me incredibly proud to share this award with them all.”

The High Street TV family all work together to make things happen and have fun along the way.

The three part High Street TV CSR 2019 story is shared here:

1

The High Street TV Family

High Street TV’s company motto is Life. Love it. Live it - which captures their brand promise, to improve the quality and enjoyment of people’s lives. More than this, it’s about their ‘Family Values’, how they all work together to make things happen, seizing the day and having fun along the way. High Street TV strongly believe that their success to-date has been achieved through the outstanding, ambitious, talented and conscientious staff they call - ‘The High Street TV family’.

Family values are the foundation of the High Street TV brand and are all about ‘how they roll’ and how they can build their brand into every day work life.

The High Street TV brand is brought to life in their 24,000 sq ft headquarters at Central House in Harrogate which is more than twice the size of their previous space in the same building which they moved into in 2017. To enable creativity and empowerment within the office, they have created a Google-type working environment which includes a ‘Village Green’ used for team presentations, office celebrations and ‘Family Get Togethers’, and a ‘ZAP’ room with sleeping pods, motivational books and a place for staff to take a time out, re-charge, re-energise or simply relax. Around the office walls are reminders of the brand, corporate purpose, family values, customer promises and motivational quotes from inspiring leaders across the globe.

Staff are kept engaged through iVibe – a bespoke staff intranet with the High Street TV touch designed to improve communications and provide everyone with key resources at the click of a button. Their Positive Improvement Committee (P.I.C) include staff members from around the business and represents the voice of the High Street TV Family to promote and inspire positive change and improvement for everyone. The STAR (Special Thanks And Recognition) on the Street scheme gives staff the chance to nominate a colleague every month who has gone above and beyond and who are then rewarded with lots of goodies at the monthly Family Gathering. The L.O.V.E. (Length Of Valued Employment) scheme rewards staff with perks and benefits for their continued, loyal service.

Staff are encouraged to participate in training and development courses as well as offering NVQ qualifications and regular performance reviews. As recognition of their commitment to their people, High Street TV has been awarded the Investors in People (IIP) Accreditation for the past 2 years.

Community

High Street TV are all about making a difference, being able to work together as a team to give something back and make a difference to people, charities and organisations who need their support the most.

High Street TV have been a patron of Saint Michael’s Hospice since 2016.

Saint Michael’s Hospice is a local charity serving the Harrogate District and exists to ensure people affected by terminal illnesses get the high-quality end of life care they may want, need and deserve by providing care and bereavement services in an environment where every individual is treated with dignity and respect. Staff members have participated in numerous activities over the years to raise money and provide additional support to the charity, and, continue to do so with an action-packed fundraising event calendar and a target to get over the £100,000 mark! From tackling gruelling challenges like the 12K run, muddy obstacles of the Total Warrior course and lengthy road races, as well as organising successful events such as the High Street TV Bake Off, to volunteering days at the hospice itself.

The Great High Street TV Bake Off

Every year, HSTV organise ‘The Great High Street TV Bake Off’ – a baking competition based on the UK TV show “The Great British Bake Off”. Staff are encouraged to show off their creative flair and enter the 4 different baking categories, which are then judged by Co-Founder and Chief Executive, Jim Colemen and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, Andrew Malcher (aka Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry!) Each year they also have a ‘guest judge’ including UK’s Great British Bake Off Runner Up, Holly Bell. The bakes are then sold off to raise money for Saint Michael’s Hospice.

HighStreet TV Charity Summit

The Total Warrior Challenge

Staff members are encouraged to participate in the annual Total Warrior Challenge, a gruelling challenge consisting of a 12K run and 25 punishing obstacles (including Ice Baths, Fire Jumps, Electric Shocks and Mud Pits!) It’s been a huge success and brilliant fundraising activity over the past few years, each time raising over £2,000 for Saint Michael’s Hospice.

High Street TV's support for Saint Michael’s Hospice was recently recognised when they were announced winners at the 2019 Local Business Charity Awards (North Yorkshire), nominated by the charity itself. The award acknowledges their continued support for the charity and their efforts in being its leading fundraiser!

And it’s not just Saint Michael’s Hospice where High Street TV provide community support and give something back. They donate and raise money for other local charities in the region, from food bank donations, local hospital donations, to sample product sales – proceeds are all donated to worthy causes and are frequently encouraged across the business.

The Environment

As part of their 2019 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) plan, High Street TV have set ambitious company-wide targets for becoming more sustainable, including reducing carbon emissions by 80% and using more recycled or sustainable materials for product packaging.

“We obviously need to ensure that we always comply with existing legislation and regulations but, we also need to go further; by ensuring we not only protect our environment but always act fairly and ethically towards our customers, suppliers and stakeholders. Equally we need to ensure that anyone we choose to work with withholds these same principles and ideals.

Acknowledging that our business operations can have a potential impact on the environment, we teamed up with Carbon Footprint Ltd. They helped us calculate the amount of carbon our UK activities produced throughout 2018 and we are now working with them to implement ways which will offset these emissions, making us a Carbon Neutral business.”

High Street TV will be supporting multiple international carbon offset initiatives, including a UK tree planting project in the Amazon, The Efficient Cook Stove Programme in Kenya, and a solar project in India. These initiatives are verified by VCS (an organisation who set global benchmarks for carbon) and go towards the Agenda 2030 ‘Responsible Consumption and Production’ targets set by the United Nations.

Not only do High Street TV intend to uphold their Environmental, Social, and Governance plan internally, but it will also be extended to all manufacturing and third-party suppliers, ensuring a greener way of thinking at every stage of production. They have further developed an Environmental Policy which identifies other sustainable objectives they want to achieve throughout 2019 with their staff member’s help and support.
